Oneleet and Vanta both help you get ready for a SOC 2 audit. Oneleet sells its platform with an in-house manual penetration test and a named security adviser in one quote. Vanta sells the platform and leaves testing and hands-on help to your team or to partners you scope separately. Choose Oneleet if nobody on your team owns that security work, or Vanta if someone already does.
Oneleet
- VendorPlatform, a named security program manager and an in-house manual penetration test.
Coordinates the independent auditor. - Your teamRuns your systems, makes final decisions and signs representations.
- Independent CPATests controls and issues the SOC 2 report.
Vanta
- VendorPlatform, guided setup and remediation flows.
Plan-dependent CPA request workspace. - Your teamRuns the program, fixes failures, answers CPA requests and hires any tester or adviser.
- Independent CPATests controls and issues the SOC 2 report.
The common mistake is setting a Oneleet bundle quote against a Vanta software price when only the Oneleet quote is sold as including a penetration test and an adviser. Neither vendor issues the SOC 2 report. To judge either product on its own, read the Oneleet review and Vanta review; the Oneleet and Vanta profiles hold the dated product facts. For a wider shortlist, start with the SOC 2 software guide.
Oneleet vs Vanta: what work does each proposal include?
Oneleet describes a named security adviser and in-house manual penetration testing; Vanta describes guided compliance workflows and access to expert partners for additional services. Compare those services with the work you would otherwise buy separately, and get the deliverables written into the order.
| Criterion | Oneleet | Vanta | Evidence class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Security adviser | Named Security Program Manager from signature through renewal. Tasks and availability need a written scope. | Guided setup and agent flows; expert partners listed for additional services. Name any human implementer in the proposal. | Vendor service descriptions and plan page |
| Penetration test | In-house manual test. Compliance, Comprehensive and Custom packages cover different targets; confirm which one the order includes. | The plan page lists no included test. If one is offered, name the provider, targets and report in the proposal. | Vendor package documentation; Vanta order entitlement unconfirmed |
| Connector coverage | Documentation has a setup page for each integrated system plus a custom-integration option, with no published total. Check each required system. | 400+ integrations advertised. Breadth does not show evidence depth for your systems. | Vendor documentation and product page |
| Evidence and remediation | Automated monitoring and evidence collection, guided by the adviser. Your team operates systems and makes final decisions. | Connected evidence, hourly automated tests and guided remediation tasks. Your team supplies owners, approvals and fixes. | Vendor product and workflow documentation |
| CPA handoff | A person reviews sampled evidence, then the adviser coordinates the auditor. Auditor permissions are not publicly documented. | Request lists and controlled auditor views, which may need an upgrade or add-on. | Vendor descriptions; workflow acceptance untested |
| Direct price | Custom quote; no public dollar amount. | Personalized quote; public Marketplace offers have their own scope. | Vendor pricing pages |
| Finding a CPA candidate | Confirm the firm's Oneleet experience directly using the auditor directory. | 40 attestation-capable directory firms list Vanta; inspect the Vanta auditor listing. | Directory records; a listing does not prove exam experience |
Public documentation checked October 8, 2026: Oneleet adviser responsibilities, testing packages, platform and documentation; Vanta guided flows, plans, automated compliance and auditor views. These establish advertised scope, not measured workload savings, test quality or CPA acceptance.
Does Oneleet’s security bundle replace work you would buy alongside Vanta?
Oneleet’s bundle replaces a separate penetration test and security adviser only when the contracted package and service scope cover what your customers and CPA need. Vanta fits a team that already has those people and wants software to organize evidence and requests.
Oneleet’s September 2026 vCISO article describes the adviser as a Security Program Manager who scopes the program, turns controls into tasks and sets weekly priorities, coordinates a human evidence review before the audit and works with the independent auditor. Your company keeps final decisions, representations and signatures, and your team runs the environment. Ask Oneleet to turn that description into a schedule with deliverables and response times.
Oneleet’s package table shows why the package name matters. Compliance covers web applications, mobile applications and APIs; Comprehensive and Custom add networks, cloud assessments, secure code review and more. All three list twelve months of free retesting. The order should name the package, the assets and which findings qualify for a retest. The Oneleet review compares the packages in detail.
Vanta’s guided flows are software steps for cloud setup, failing tests, policy review, risks and vendors, depending on the plan, AI enablement and account. If you need a person to implement controls or fix failures, name that person in the proposal. Vanta’s plan page lists access to expert partners for additional services; get their tasks and fees into the comparison.
How do Oneleet and Vanta get evidence to your independent CPA?
Oneleet describes people who review and coordinate the evidence; Vanta describes a product workspace where the CPA requests and reviews it. Neither vendor issues the SOC 2 report, and the examining CPA must accept the evidence path whichever vendor coordinates it.
| Step | Oneleet | Vanta |
|---|---|---|
| Check before the CPA sees it | A person reviews sampled evidence; up to 25 items from each list or log for Type 2. | Your owners move each request through internal review to audit-ready. |
| Who adds requests | Not publicly documented. | You or the CPA import the first list; after that, only the auditor adds requests. |
| What the CPA can see | Not publicly documented. | With a custom request list, population pages start hidden until you enable them. |
| Who exports the package | Not publicly documented. | You export the request list and evidence as a ZIP; the auditor cannot. Some automated evidence exports as a summary. |
| Type 2 history | Not publicly documented. | No bulk export of historical automated test results; the controls CSV omits evidence-upload timestamps. |
| Who answers the CPA | The adviser fields auditor questions and brings your team in when needed. | Your request owners, inside the workspace. |
Checked October 8, 2026: Oneleet's adviser description; Vanta's guides to request lists, auditor views and exports. Vanta's request lists and controlled views may need an upgrade or add-on. "Not publicly documented" means Oneleet's product pages and documentation do not describe the step; ask for a demonstration.
With Oneleet, the open question is the CPA engagement itself. Oneleet’s CPA article says it works with partner CPA firms, and the adviser coordinates the auditor, but the public sources name no firm, fee or independence assessment. Ask the proposed CPA to confirm its scope and independence in its own engagement letter, then have it request a sample through Oneleet and note who in your company or at Oneleet sends it. The Oneleet review covers who signs the report.
With Vanta, your team sits in the middle: owners prepare each answer, you choose which population pages the CPA sees, and you send the export. Because of the history limits, have the CPA inspect a historical sample before relying on either product for a Type 2 window. For how a Vanta audit runs end to end, see Vanta SOC 2: what it automates.
Our directory contains 40 attestation-capable firms whose records list Vanta. That is a starting point for finding a Vanta-experienced CPA, not proof of partnership, completed examinations or acceptance of your evidence. For Oneleet, use the CPA directory and confirm the firm’s Oneleet experience directly.
Is Oneleet or Vanta cheaper for the same SOC 2 scope?
Neither is proven cheaper, because only Vanta has public numbers and they cover software alone. Both vendors require a direct quote. A Oneleet services bundle cannot be compared fairly with a Vanta software amount that leaves testing, advice or examination work unpriced.
| Evidence type | Oneleet | Vanta |
|---|---|---|
| Direct pricing page | Custom quote; no dollar amount published. | Personalized quote; no dollar amount published for the full scope. |
| Observed contracts (third-party) | No observed contract pool in our record. | Vendr-observed purchases have a $20,000 median per year (current range). Scopes are unmatched. |
| Marketplace listing (seller-controlled) | None in our record. | AWS Marketplace 12-month starting costs for 1 to 20 employees: Essentials $14,000, Plus $21,500, Professional $23,000. |
| Penetration test and adviser | Part of the bundle; priced inside the quote. | Not in the listed figures; expert partners are listed for additional services. |
Checked October 8, 2026: Vendr, Vanta's pricing page and Oneleet's pricing page. AWS Marketplace checked October 20, 2026. These are different kinds of evidence, not a range, and none includes the independent CPA's fee.
If you would buy a penetration test and security guidance separately, add those quotes to a Vanta figure before holding it against a Oneleet bundle, and ask Oneleet for a line-item quote. The Oneleet quote checklist and Vanta pricing guide cover each quote path. Then request proposals against one cost schedule:
| Cost line | Specify in the Oneleet proposal | Specify in the Vanta proposal |
|---|---|---|
| Platform and frameworks | Employee band, SOC 2 scope, any second framework and included workflows. | The same employee band, frameworks and demonstrated workflows. |
| Testing and retest | Named package, identical assets, methods, report, retest rights and dates. | Named test provider and the same assets, methods, report, retest rights and dates. |
| Implementation and advice | Adviser's tasks, availability, duration and work retained by your team. | Internal or external owner's tasks, availability, duration and service fees. |
| CPA examination | Named independent firm, engagement scope and fee, including any bundled amount. | Named independent firm, identical engagement scope and fee, including any bundled amount. |
| Renewal and exit | Scope changes, renewal terms, evidence retention and exports. | The same scope changes, renewal terms, retention and required exports. |
Fill each cell from a written proposal. Where a line is bundled, ask for its stand-alone value so you can see what the bundle replaces.
A combined invoice does not settle the examination contract. Vanta says its Seamless Audit package lets you pick an independent auditor with the audit cost in the same transaction. Oneleet says its all-in price covers a managed audit. In each proposal, confirm whether the named CPA’s fee is included, what it covers and which agreement governs the examination, so you neither count it twice nor treat an unstated fee as zero. Add the internal time to operate controls, fix findings and supply manual evidence, and ask for renewal costs at your expected headcount.
Does company stage change the Oneleet vs Vanta choice?
Company size changes the answer only through who already owns the security work.
- Small SaaS team with no security lead or tester: nobody owns the program, the test or the policies. Oneleet deserves a scoped proposal if its adviser and package cover those gaps. Vanta works here only if the quote names an implementer and a test provider. Even with a bundled adviser, someone inside must approve policies and arrange system changes.
- Team with a security engineer and an existing pentest vendor: the specialists exist, so the open question is evidence software. Compare Vanta, or another platform, against Oneleet’s full offer, counting the test and advice you already pay for.
- Enterprise security team: the team runs the program and often has its own testers, so a bundle risks paying twice. For custom or on-premises systems, make each vendor show the manual-evidence path.
- SOC 2 Type 2: require both platforms to keep dated evidence across the CPA-agreed observation period, including failures and corrections.
- SOC 2 plus ISO 27001: have each vendor show shared tasks, owners and framework-specific work against both deadlines. Shared control mapping does not prove both run at once. Selected user reviews describe Oneleet’s framework work as sequential, and no current Oneleet document establishes SOC 2 and ISO 27001 running in parallel.
- Regulated sector: start from your customer and regulatory requirements rather than a generic “startup” or “enterprise” label.
What do reviews and Reddit threads say about Oneleet vs Vanta?
Public ratings and threads help you write demo questions; they do not compare these two products head to head. G2 listed Oneleet at 4.9/5 from 140 reviews on September 29, 2026 and Vanta at 4.6/5 from 2,728 on September 30. The pools differ in size and buyer mix, and neither rates penetration-test scope or CPA acceptance.
The public threads on this pair are old and anecdotal, and several participants disclose commercial interests:
- An August 2024 r/cybersecurity thread has a disclosed Oneleet employee stressing human security work and a Vanta user valuing organized evidence.
- An r/startups SOC 2 thread has a Vanta user naming policy and legal approvals as the internal bottleneck.
- A 2024 r/ycombinator thread draws answers from several vendors and consultancies, so read its advice as sales input.
In these threads, internal work such as approvals and evidence tracking drives the effort more than the dashboard does. None is a head-to-head trial or a consensus.
What same-scope test should Oneleet and Vanta pass?
Give Oneleet and Vanta the same application boundary, critical systems, framework deadlines and intended CPA, then run these five steps in order and keep the outputs with each proposal:
- Assign the security work. Pick one control gap and one policy that needs adapting. Name who diagnoses, drafts, implements, approves and answers the CPA. Keep the responsibility schedule, service availability and the list of work your team retains.
- Scope the penetration test. Give each proposal the same applications, APIs, roles, infrastructure and exclusions. Request the named provider, methodology, a redacted report sample and retest terms. Keep the rules of engagement and deliverable schedule, whether the test is bundled or bought separately.
- Trace evidence through a failure. Map one critical system to a control, then show a failed or disconnected nonproduction source, its alert, owner, recovery and retained history. Add a manual artifact for a system with no suitable connector. Keep the dated evidence and correction trail.
- Let the intended CPA inspect and keep a sample. Have the CPA request an artifact, view the relevant population, ask a follow-up and check a historical export. Record permissions, access timing, manual transfers and any upgrade or seat cost. Keep the CPA’s written assessment and proposed engagement scope.
- Reconcile the order and exit. Match every demonstrated workflow and promised service to the proposed plan. Total platform, testing, advice, implementation, CPA, renewal and retained team work; export the sample evidence and request history. Keep the itemized proposal and usable files.
Price any extra service the demonstration requires, have the CPA assess missing historical evidence, and resolve those gaps before signing either proposal.
Choose Oneleet, Vanta or neither
Choose Oneleet when the contracted services fill your gaps
- You need a penetration test and adviser, and the named package covers your assets, deliverables and deadlines.
- The adviser schedule removes coordination work your team cannot absorb.
- Your required systems appear in Oneleet’s published integration list. Skip it if they do not.
- Your chosen independent CPA accepts the evidence path, and the complete proposal prices the examination clearly.
Check that scope against the Oneleet quote checklist before requesting the final order.
Choose Vanta when your program has owners and the evidence path works
- Your team or contracted specialists can own implementation, remediation and testing.
- The demonstrated workflows collect your required evidence and leave manageable manual work.
- The quoted plan includes the auditor functions you need, and the CPA accepts the sample and export.
Use the Vanta pricing guide to reconcile the order, or the Vanta auditor listing to find a CPA candidate.
Choose neither when the proposals leave the same gap
- You mainly need someone to design and operate the security program, and neither order assigns that work clearly.
- Neither demonstration supplies the evidence your CPA needs from a critical system.
- Neither full proposal fits your budget, or you only need a narrow examination with evidence you already maintain.
For a different platform shortlist, use Vanta alternatives or the software directory. If you already maintain the evidence and need an examiner, start with the auditor directory and agree the examination scope before buying more software.
